Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
JAPANESE LANGUAGE EXAM CENTER IN INDIA is a standardized test to assess, verify, and confirm the ability of the non-native speakers and learners of Japanese. It covers Japanese language knowledge, reading comprehension, and listening skills. The JLPT is required for non-native individuals who want to pursue education in Japan, employment which requires Japanese language proficiency or for other personal purposes.
In Japan, It has been administered by the JEES (Japan Educational Exchanges and Services), while the J.F. (Japan Foundation) administers overseas tests.
EXAM PATTERN
The JLPT originally comprised four levels N1, N2, N3, N4,N5
N5 – It is specially developed for beginners. Candidates are expected to learn Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji (Chinese characters), their readings and pronunciations and the basic of Japanese Grammar.
N4 – One can understand passages which are on familiar daily topics written using basic kanji and vocabulary. They can also understand and follow basic conversations in daily life.
N3 – One can listen, read, and comprehend coherent conversations in everyday situations at near-natural speed, and can typically follow their contents.
N2– Candidates obtained the most advanced level of proficiency in Japanese and can read and understand complex written material on a variety of topics. Successful JLPT N1 candidates can also converse orally and understand orally presented material extensively, even when spoken with native fluency in Japanese.
N1 – The highest and most sophisticated level. Candidates who successfully clear the JLPT N1 have obtained the most advanced level of proficiency in Japanese and can read and understand complex written material on a variety of topics. Candidates can also converse orally and understand orally presented material extensively.
